Five Tips For Saving

money saving tips, savings, $$ how to

Over the years I've become really good at saving money. I've managed to keep myself a nice savings in my bank account and am always asked how I do it. I thought I'd give you a few tips if your looking to save some money.

Don't Spend Just Because You Have
My number one and most important tip is not to spend just because you have money. It's easy to think  'I just got paid, I'm going shopping', but you shouldn't blow all your money in one go. I think it's important to learn this from a young age because it becomes second nature. Think of your future. Do you want to travel, move out or into a bigger/nicer place. Thinking about saving towards something later in life always helps me save, because I want to be able to afford nice things in my future.

Take a Step Back
Look at where your moneys going to. Do you eat out every day for your lunch, or buy a coffee on your way to work? These things add up quickly and get forgotten about, but can make a huge overall difference. For me, I've noticed my phone bill getting higher and higher because I've gone over my data usage. An easy solution to this is changing your phone plan, or as I did, turning off the cellular data and strictly using wifi unless necessary.

Cut Back On Luxuries
Those little $2 (or more) things like a cup of coffee can really add up. A 2$ cup of coffee is a monthly rate of $40. Add in all the other little things and it's no wonder we have no money. Getting a travel mug and making your own coffee to go, packing a lunch or snack to bring with you on your day out. Cutting back on the little things can easily make a difference. Learn to make it a treat rather than a necessity.

Budget
Before spending your paycheque, look at what your monthly expenses are. Make a list of the things you pay, like rent, phone bill, travel, groceries, etc. Make sure you include all the necessities. Look at how much you're spending and how much is left over. Going back to my first tip, don't spend everything left over. Just because you have it doesn't mean it needs to be spent.

Give Yourself a Spending Limit
When I go out, I like to use cash. It's easy to get carried away and spend more than you should if you're using debit/credit cards. Put them away, and stick with cash. This prevents you from over-spending and buying unnecessary things.

Those are my five tips for saving. Let me know if you find this helpful and if you have any tips of your own, share them below!

Spring Face

spring face makeup, rimmel wake me up concealer, bb cream radiance, mac shroom, naked lunch, tarte blissful, demure, rose melody, pure

Spring has sprung and in the eyes of a beauty lover that means time to change up your products. Put away those heavy foundations and bring out the BB's, peaches and pinks.

I need a light base in the warmer months, and Rimmels Radiance BB Cream is where it's at. Light coverage, a glowing finish and non greasy formula. Now all we need is a little concealer and our base is set. Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer goes really well with this as it's also a brightener. Revlon Photoready Skinlight in Pink Light along the high points of the cheeks and down the noise give an extra glow to the skin.

I like to keep the eyes bright so a champagne like Mac Naked Lunch or Shroom are my go to's. A bit of brown liner or shadow smudged into the lash line and some mascara and the eyes are good to go. L'Oreal Miss Manga is what I'm currently using for nice full lashes and Stila Smudgestick in Lionfish is a great bronzy liner.

The cheeks and lips are where I like to play around a little more with colour. The peaches and pinks come out to brighten up the face. Tarte Blissful has been my go to for a nice pop of colour to the cheeks. L'oreal Colour Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick in Rose Melody, Revlon Laquer Balm in Demure, and Rimmel Exaggerate Liner in Pure are a few examples of lip colours I'd go for.

With my springy face I'm ready to get outside in that sunshine and enjoy the warm weather I've missed for so long.

Life Snippets: A Park Day

Now that the weathers nice I've been trying to get out as much as possible and enjoy the sunshine. I try my best to get Lily out for a walk and a play on the swings. This day we just sat on the grass and played and snapped a few photos because there were a lot of kiddies out. She loves to be outside and look around at everything new and exciting. I don't know what it is about being out in the fresh air but it knocks her out and she ends up having the longest naps. To be honest, sometimes I do too.

I hope you enjoyed these little snippets ofmy day and I hope to do more posts like these. Let me know what you did today!

Top Drugstore Foundations

top[ drugstore foundations, rimmel wake me up, bourjois healthy mix serum, rimmel radiance bb cream 9-in-1

A good base is doesn't always have to be expensive. There are some great options sitting on the shelves in the drugstores, often missed because there are just too many to choose from. I thought I'd share with you a few of my top picks of drugstore foundations incase you were looking for a new one to try.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum
This is my current favourite base to use on a daily basis. Everyone has that one fault proof foundation and this is the one for me. It's a good colour match, looks natural and has a light to medium coverage. My only complaint is it's not easy to find in Canada, so Feelunique is my retailor of choice for this one. I use the shade Vanilla.

Rimmel Wake Me Up
This is a great foundation when you're skin is looking really dull and tired. Maybe when your sick, haven't gotten a good nights sleep, or during the winter when your skin hasn't seen sunshine in months- this is a good one. It gives a nice glow and really does make your skin look more awake and lively. The shade range for this one isn't the best. The lightest shade is still a bit dark for me, but I make it work. I use Ivory.

Revlon PhotoReady
I don't currently have this one but I've gone through about three bottles of the stuff, and it was at the top of my list for quite some time. It has a lovely glowing, skin-like finish and is a light to medium coverage. It's a little more pricey for the drugstore foundation, but it's worth it in my eyes. I use the shade Vanilla and it's a perfect match.

Rimmel Radiance BB Cream
This is a new one but so far I'm really liking it. Perfect for a quick pick me up for your skin. It evens things out with a light coverage, goes on smoothly and is really easy to just throw on with your fingers in a rush. A good summer product.

Disappointing Products

disppointing products, batiste xxl volume, origins vitazing sheer tint, hydraluron, eos lip balms,

Origins Vitazing Energy Boosting Moisturizer
Everyone loves this. I got it in a Origins top five box set and thought okay, lets give this a go. Unfortunately the colour of this is way too dark for me. I end up looking like an oompa loompa because it just doesnt look right, no matter how little I apply. A lot of people say they can use this in place of foundation, and I dont know how. It doesnt offer any coverage, just an odd orange tint to the skin. Its definitely not something for me.

EOS Lipbalms
I have a few of these because ive bought one and been gifted a few. While they smell amazing and come in a wide variety of scents, and are in a handy egg shape to apply to your lips, they just dont seem to do anything. If like me, you get super dry lips, these are not the lip product for you. They feel nice on the lips, but it seems to never sink into my lips and is just kind of pointless. If you just want something balmy on your lips and are not looking for moisurization, then these would be okay.

Hydraluron
This moisture boosting serum was talked and raved about by everyone. Having dry skin I thought this would be a good one for me, but honestly I didn't notice anything different whether I used it or didn't. If a product doesn't have a noticeable difference, I don'y see a point in using it. It's not bad, but it just doesn't do anything for me.

Topshop Petal Lipstick
For years I wanted to try the topshop lipsticks. I dont have a store near me, so when Feelunique started stocking their makeup on their site, I thought it was a perfect time to try. I got two colours and while I love the formula, this colour just doesnt work for me. Its way too pale and of course thats my fault as I bought it online and never would have got it if I saw it in person.

Batiste XXL Volume Dry Shampoo
I'm a huge fan of batiste. It's available at the drugstore, is maybe not the cheapest at $9, but it works and it works well. However I decided to try this one as it's supposed to give volume and we can all admit dirty hair is limp and just sticks to your head. This dry shampoo does make the hair appear clean, and does give some volume, but it also makes it feel heavy and dry and just super gross. The original batiste doesn't leave any residue in the hair, you can't feel it at all which I love. This one just makes me want to go wash my hair. I think i'd rather have greasy hair then use this one unfortunately.

The Lazy Skincare Routine

The Body Shop, lazy skincare, cream cleanser, cleansing butter, vitamin e night cream, moisture, origins ginzing eye cream

The Remover
First step is the worst- makeup removal. I like to get this done as quick as possible lazy day or not, and The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter is the solution. Rub a little between your fingers to warm it up and it will become an oil. Rub it into your eyes to remove even the toughest waterproof mascara, and all your foundation. Remove with a damp washcloth and we're done. If I'm not in the mood for a second step, I often leave the cleansing at that.

The Cleanser
If I wasn't wearing makeup then this is my go to. The Body Shop Pomegranate Cream Cleanser is what I've been using lately and really enjoying. It's great for drier skins, doesn't strip or leave a tight feeling and it's really quick and easy. It also smells great and the pump dispenser is always a plus!

The Eyecream
Even when I'm lazy I try to make sure I put my eyecream on. I want to take care of my eye area as much as possible! Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eyecream is my current favourite. Designed to brighten and de-puff, this little guy showed me that eyecreams do actually do something. I've only used this one for a few months but it's blown the others out the water.

The Moisturizer
Lastly, we need to moisturize. I like The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream for day because it's lightweight, and sinks in pretty quickly so if I'm wearing makeup that day, I don't have to wait to apply.I also use the Night Cream  which is a bit thicker, but doesn't take hours to sink in. Both leave my skin feeling super smooth and soft and they're under $20 which is budget friendly.

Do you have a skincare routine for those lazy days? Leave me yours or any product recommendations below, I'd love to read them!

As you may have noticed I use a lot of The Body Shop products. I am not affiliated with or paid to say anything about them. I geneuinely like them and have purchased all products with my own hard earned money.

Rimmel Radiance BB Cream 9-in1

Rimmel Radiance BB Cream 9-in1, foundation, drugstore
Rimmel Radiance BB Cream 9-in1, foundation, drugstore

Rimmel came out with new Radiance and Matte options of their BB Cream. Being a fan of the dewy, skin-like look, I opted for the radiance one of course. I am always looking to make my skin look healthy and this is said to do just that. With 9-in-1 properties, including priming, smoothing, concealing, minimizing pore appearance, natural coverage, 24 hour moisture, awakening tired skin, brightening with Vitamin C, and giving a radiant finish.

It comes in an easy to use tube and is reasonably priced under $10. It has a bit of a suncreen scent, but it doesn't really bother me. I got the shade light and it's a good colour match, more so as I get a tan. Application was easy- it blends in well with just fingers or a damp sponge. Coverage is of course minimal, as expected, but it does give a really nice glow and natural look to the skin. I'm a fan of the appearance even without a concealer, though I would probably use one anyway to combat my dark circles a little more. It wore well throughout the day, wasn't greasy feeling like a lot of BB's, and I didn't have a problems with oxidization.

I am so far far a big fan of this and would definitely recommend giving it a try.
